There are many paths to achieving a single goal, but the only thing that will guarantee you’re getting to the finish line is to be persistent. Yes, we all have tried to do it without much success at least once in our lives.
New Year’s resolutions are the living proof of it. But it doesn’t have to be a burden or a heavy weight to carry. Being persistent can be as smooth and easygoing as your way of living.
You don’t have to look for the magic star that will make all your dreams come true. Even though it happens in movies sometimes, the truth is that dreams don’t just come true; they are worked for. Goals don’t happen.
You make them happen. And to do so, you must be willing to do the work, big and small, daily.
But how do you master the skills that are required to master other skills? Worry no more. We’ve got you. We know it is easier said than done, but we tried to break it down into smaller, more achievable tips for you to follow and thrive.
Commit To The Mission
To be able to wake up every day and have the willpower to end the day at least an inch closer to our goal, we need to commit to it fully. And we might think that for the simple fact of wanting to achieve this goal, we are committed, which sadly is not how it works. If you want to know more about commitment at work, we have a detailed article on that. Check it out here.
Real commitment is about enthusiasm for something and the determination to work hard at it. To be committed is to be aligned with your mind, body, and soul to fulfill your purpose. However, sometimes, we need a bit of extra help to follow through.
For that, sometimes, we create accountability systems. A good one is to involve someone else who cares about you; they will be committed to your success because they care and help you keep on track when you feel like falling back.
Fuel It With A Reliable Source Of Motivation
My city is known for its relentless weather. No matter the time of the year, whether it rains or not, like little Annie, you can always be sure that the sun will come out. Therefore, starting initiatives that use solar power will be a most certain success. It would be best to find out what your inner solar power is.
For some people, other people can be that, like mothers, they improve every day to be better for their kids. For others, that motivation could be their vision of the future they want or the change they want to make in the world.
Once you find your solar power, you need to find a way to tie your short-term goal to that motivation source. No matter how unrelated they might seem initially, there is always a way to connect them so that one can feed the other.
Be Sustainable
Yes, keep going, and some days don’t even look back at all, just focus on the task and step ahead… but, try not to die in the process. Persistence can´t be blind, either. We are human beings who need to rest to be able to keep working.
Being constant can be great for our goal, but it won’t do anything if we burn out before we make it to the finish line.
Working towards making a dream happen won’t be accessible at all times; you will have setbacks and obstacles, and you need to be resilient to bounce forward from them. So, yes, be persistent, don’t give up, but move and work in a way that allows you to do it for as long as needed.
Manage the work on smaller tasks when you lack the energy to do bigger things. Be wise on how you use your most valuable resources… Your energy and time.
Trust The Process
One day, you will be there; be sure of that. If you believe you can achieve it, you have lived half of the work done. When we trust that we have the potential, we look for tools to materialize the reality we want to be in. And some days, you will need to get some perspective…
When you are low, looking back and seeing the progress can be a great way of getting enough strength to move a little that day. When you are demotivated, thinking about when you finally achieve it can be soothing.
But most days, we need to make our goal S.M.A.R.T and not look at all that we have yet to do and only focus on what we need to do now, and step by step, brick by brick, we end up building a bigger castle than you expected.
Being persistent will bring many joys to your life. Sometimes, we only need to follow through to live to our fullest potential. So, what are you waiting for to persist in your goals?
