Building Your Charisma at Work

In last month’s Freelancer of the Month meeting, we talked about charisma and the important tool that quality is in life, specifically in the workplace. So, continuing with the purpose of educating our freelancers, we want to share this knowledge with our online community. Why is it so important to be charismatic at work and how can you achieve it? Let’s see.

Humans naturally want to have the affection and respect of others, and in an environment that undoubtedly has situations of stress and tension associated with it, such as work, it is convenient for us to have positive feelings of camaraderie to help us make relationships more comfortable, bearable and the overall experience more enjoyable.

Why Is Charisma Important At Work?

Charisma is the natural gift that a person has to attract others by their presence, their words, or personality. Some people manage to integrate into groups more easily than others, and for the most part, charismatics tend to be this way naturally. But like everything in life, you can learn how to do it.

This quality is normally underestimated in comparison to hard skills, or technical knowledge, but it shouldn’t be. We can affirm that charisma is responsible for making people assertively connect with each other, managing to strengthen labor relations, which in turn motivates team members to work with more enthusiasm, to give their best, be adaptive and agile when facing changes, and problems at work.

These people can quickly be identified by their personality traits, they are kind, spontaneous, self-confident, and they transmit that security and confidence to others. Let’s be honest, don’t you find it charming to work with someone like that?

This is why all of us in a work environment should aim to improve our social skills, in order to inspire our colleagues with enthusiasm, interest, and who knows, appreciation, things that do wonders for coexistence at work. Let’s try to achieve this, and understand that these skills are as valid as the technical knowledge we have.

How to Build Your Charisma

One of the first things you need to do to start building, or rather revealing your charisma to the world, is to gain self-confidence, present yourself to others in a conventionally nice way, and be friendly. It is essential to have good relationships with other people, to have a good relationship with yourself, so some of the things you could do to start improving this are:

  • Express Your Ideas: Letting others know what you think about issues relevant to the situation is important so they can get to know you and connect with you. In addition, it helps you to cultivate good self-esteem and security. Little by little, letting people help you and get to know you will help your validation of yourself, and as much as you validate yourself, you will teach others to validate you.
  • Be Responsible: Being responsible in every way is very important, from fulfilling your obligations effectively and efficiently, to being responsible with your needs and with the bonds you form. Being punctual, proactive, honest, polite, are characteristics well received by everyone in a work environment.
  • Be Authentic: One of the characteristics of charismatic people is that they leave impressions on the people they meet because of their authenticity, their spontaneity, and that loyalty to themselves that makes them always show themselves as they are. When you are authentic, you leave your personal mark on each person you meet, and that makes others remember you and relate to you.
  • Show Interest: When we show interest in interacting with our classmates, we actively listen to what they tell us, we show that we want to help them, get to know them, and join the groups. And this, without a doubt, is noticeable, and that works wonders for the connections that are formed in work teams.
  • Be Generous: In the same order of ideas as in the previous point, being kind and generous with the people around you helps them feel more comfortable around you and they can notice your interest in relating to them. Being a decent and kind person is the most practical way to get kindness in return.
  • Take Care of Your Appearance: By this, I am not just referring to the superficial part of your appearances such as the clothes you wear, your hairstyle, and the style you wear, but also your body language, and everything that you transmit non-verbally to people. . It is important that this is consistent with the message you want to convey later. That your colleagues at work are able to notice that you are someone reliable, friendly and spontaneous in every aspect of you.

Taking these points into account, you can enhance your charisma both at work and in any area of your life, thus managing to optimize your relationships and experience with the people who accompany you on the team.
